Our History

Pharmachem was established in 1979 with the purchase of Stanley Blackman Laboratories, a leading supplier of ingredients to the emerging natural and nutritional industries. Pharmachem expanded steadily, evolving into a major force among ingredients developers and suppliers.

Our Evolution

Through our strategic acquisitions and investments, we are a vertically integrated company. We add value, enhancing every step in the production process from field-to-market.

We currently own and operate 14 manufacturing facilities in North America, with bench top, pilot and commercial operations.

2003

AVOCA, Inc., the largest botanical extraction facility in eastern United States, purchased in 2003 from the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.


2004

MPT, Materials Processing Technology, Inc., an industry leader in fluidized bed, high-sheer granulation and continuous processing technologies, purchased in 2004.


2006

Avoca BioProcessing, a dairy ingredient and natural product processing facility purchased in 2006.

American Ingredients, purchased in 2006.


2007

PNI, a marketer of science-based nutritional ingredients purchased in 2007.


2009

Alix Technologies, a hot and cold-fill bottling facility capable of producing turnkey functional beverage formulations, purchased in 2009.


2010

Amerifill International, a contract formulator and manufacturer of liquid products, purchased in 2010.


2012

Improve USA, a fully integrated Aloe Vera manufacturing company with three facilities in Mexico, purchased 2012.


2013

Powder Processors, Inc., Ogden, UT, a manufacturer of a wide range of nutritional ingredient powders, including tablet and capsule-ready blends, purchased in 2013.


Organic Green Initiative

We’re committed to resource efficiency. We’re mindful of recycling and reducing waste for positive environmental impact. As an example, we installed a biomass to energy system in our extraction facility, capable of generating 30,000 lbs. of steam per hour.

We recognize that companywide charitable initiatives enrich the quality of life within the community, while building teamwork and morale. Our outreach strives to make a positive impact in our communities through contributions, in-kind support and volunteer resources.

WE ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT MANY WONDERFUL CAUSES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR INCLUDING:
The March of Dimes strives to develop and implement local programs that will ultimately improve the health of babies. Through our network of chapters and volunteers, these programs reach over a million people across the country and Puerto Rico each year. We provide information and services designed to prevent premature birth and birth defects and to promote healthy pregnancies.
Proceeds from the Walk allow women in our community with limited or no health coverage to receive vital, life-saving mammograms, genetic testing and other screening and diagnostic services. In addition, Walk for Awareness funds help purchase advanced technology to enhance the early detection of breast cancer.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park is to develop community partnerships that will help our youth achieve the confidence, skills, and healthy lifestyles necessary to become positive contributors to our community.
Eva’s Village is a uniquely progressive and comprehensive non-profit social service organization dedicated to fighting homelessness and poverty. Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation is the sole fund-raising arm of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
